SUBJECT: Operation COBALT VI 231900ZAPR17
2 Up intent:
To disrupt Rebel operations on the island allowing the restoration of the rule of law.
1 Up intent:
To dominate, by patrolling, the areas used by the enemy for logistics and training.
We will be operating in the rain forests of Southern Bioko. This is a tropical rain forest with undulating terrain and thick, dense jungle. Buildings are of single storey construction typical of the locality.
Known and Assessed Enemy Positions:
We know the enemy is actively patrolling in this area. The availability of large numbers of fighters seems to indicate a nearby logistics hub, suspected of being on the main north south road to our east.
Strength: Enemy is assessed to be in Coy strength across the immediate AO.
Morale: High due to recent combat successes
Uniforms/Dress: Not uniformed. Mixture of civilian and military clothing
Small arms: Up to 14.5mm have been identified. Mainly of Russian manufacture but now including some western SA.
Hvy Weapons: RPG-7, or variants. No information on IDF capability.
Vehicles: Likely Technicals and soft skinned vehicles
Aircraft: Highly unlikely
Air Threat: Gen 1 MANPADS, SA, HMG and RPG’s.
